Is Windows Genuine Advantage Spyware
I read a couple of news articles that talked about the latest updates that Microsoft pushed out for Windows Genuine Advantage. Windows Genuine Advantage is an anti-piracy program that Microsoft uses to track illegal copies of Windows XP. Microsoft publically admitted that the program connects to Microsoft servers everyday to verify that the version of Windows XP they are running is genuine.
I personally don’t have problem with companies that are trying to make sure you are using licensed versions of their software, but then why after verifying the software do they need to keep checking everyday which led to an obvious question of “What else is it doing”? Now, I will admit that I have not read the latest EULA and have no idea if this is stated anywhere that they will be communicating with their servers on a regular basis, but isn’t this one of the things that companies get blasted for? To me this is no different than a free utility you download on your machine that ends up doing other stuff that you did not expect.
Once again, this is proof to me that whatever Microsoft does or offers concerning security protection software, I simply cannot nor will not trust them and will always look for reputable companies such as Norton and Webroot to provide me my security solutions for my computers.
